Archaeology in these parts isn’t all about excavating and analysing artefacts – a good deal of historical research is involved as well! As we wrap up analysis work for the Riverside project, we’ve been hitting the archives to consult various historical documents, like customs records and census data about our area during the late 19th Century. From these, we can piece together certain bits of information, such as occupation and place of birth, to create a picture of what the neighbourhood’s population was like. But it’s not quite as easy as it sounds – try deciphering this handwriting from one of the documents we’ve consulted from Ancestry.com!
Happy Friday from GRA! Have a wonderful weekend!
