Curious Curios: March 18, 2014 Reveal

It’s Thursday – find out if you were right about this week’s Curious Curio!

If you guessed ink bottles, then you were right – these are some “umbrella” ink bottles we found at Riverside.  Also called “pyrmaid” ink bottles, they’re quite common at historic sites dating before 1890.

If you guessed inkwells, well then it may interest you to know that there IS a difference! While both are containers for ink, inkwells were more permanent, expensive and decorative receptacles that one kept at home.  Ink bottles were the containers one purchased the ink in.

Keep an eye out for next week’s Curious Curio!
